%X The shock-compression properties of liquid deuterium and hydrogen are studied by means of the variational fluid perturbation theory- The present theoretical results are in excellent agreement with RRY theory and Nellis'experimental data- The present calculation for the shock temperatures are higher than Holmes' experimental data, the reason for the apparent agreement of the pressures and for the higher shock tempratures are explained-
