%X The use of %B.brevis % as a host offers the advantage that proteins are secreted directly into the culture medium, where they are accumulated at high levels in a pure state. The secreted proteins are usually not only correctly folded, soluble, and biologically active, but also stable and not significantly degraded because of low levels of extracellular protease activity. Based on the characteristics of %B.brevis %, a novel and efficient screening method was designed. Of 800 isolates from soil, 8 protein-hyperproducing bacteria were isolated which showed no detectable extracellular activity of protease and amylase by means of measurement of enzyme activity. Based on the results of numerical analysis, five bacterial strains of 8 protein-hyperproducers were identified as %B.brevis %, which are strains of No.50,268,413,618 and 735.
