%X Under the electron microscope, it could be observed that many mitochondria expanded after the ingestion of the insecticidal protein purified from Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes. Partial cristae broke and blurred. Detection of oxygen electrode showed the efficiency of oxidative phosphorylation and ATP quantity decreased in the midgut cells, whereas the activity of mitochondrial ATPase was almost not affected. That means the energy utilization of locusts was in gear, but the shortage of the supplying of energy resulted in their death.
