%X A phylogenetic tree for Halobacteria was produced by analysis of 16S rRNAs from Halobacteria with Clustalw and Phylip packages. The comparative results of 16S rRNA sequences support the previous conclusion that Halobacteria sbould be classified into six genera in Family, Halobacteriales. This phylogenetic analysis not only embodies the advantage in the halobacterial genus-level classification but also represens an alternative to the halobacterial species-level one on the basis of Bergey' s Manual of Systematic Bacteriology (Vol.3). In effect, this phylogenetic approach reveals more substantial relationships among Halobacteria than the other systems based on the phenetic characteristics. The other operation details of this phylogenetic approach were discussed in this paper.
