%X Three strains of pleomorphic halobacteria (A5, B2 and B-B2) were isolated from salt lakes of Xinjiang, China. Based on the Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology, Volume 3(1989)and the analytical results of polar lipids,the three strains could be included in the genus Haloarcula. But since they differ from normally accepted two species of this genus in cell shape and physiological and biochemical features, it is suggested that the three strains belong to a new species, called Haloarcu la aidinensis sp. nov.
