%X With the development in modern testing and analyzing techniques, carbon isotopes have been used widely in oil and gas geochemistry. Recent advances in carbon isotope studies are summarized in this paper, which include identification of source rock type and forming-environment, the genetic type of natural gas, maturity of natural gas, the correlation of oil-gas-source, the alteration of oil and gas, the retracing of second migration of oil and/or gases, the mixing of different natural gases, the application in reservoir geochemistry. Some questions in application of carbon isotope in oil and gas geochemistry are also discussed.
