%X Ephedra is an important herbal source for the pharmaceutical industry. Unfortunately, Ephedra is relatively rare in a natural environment, which hinders mass applications of the herb. This paper gives an insight of the latest development in Ephedra cell engineering, both at home and abroad, in the context of its distributions and values. Authors propose to address the shortage of Ephedra using cell engineering, in an attempt to make the technology part of the traditional Chinese medicine industry.
