The eluted fractions were systematically characterized by HPLC. The retention behaviors of different macroporous adsorption resins were compared. Based on the parataxis of separation behaviors of different resins, XAD7HP and XAD16 were used to tandem separate water-extracted components from Rheum palmatum L..
