%X To observe the action of Wuzhuyu decoction (evodiae complex) on smooth muscles, and discuss the possibility of the action as an assay of the complex quality control, a contraction test was made to blood vessels, stomach, small intestines and womb in vitro. Experimental results showed that the evodiae complex could regulate blood vessels in bi-phase, while reducing the tension of stomach and inhibiting the contraction of small intestines and womb smooth muscles. The fructus evodiae, a major ingredient in the complex, has the similar action with evodiae complex. The rest of the ingredients, including ginseng, jujube and ginger, appeared with a negative action on smooth muscles. It is suggested that the method be used for the comprehensive quality control of the decoction.
