%X Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has numerous characteristics, such as holism, notion of perpetual motion and space-time view. The practice pattern of TCM has adapted to the spectrum of modern diseases. As a result, TCM has been made great development around the world. However, the clinical curative effect of TCM was under question due to many disruptive factors, for instance, gradually downplaying of TCM thought model, doubt in Chinese medicine quality, improper evaluation method of clinical curative effect, repeated unauthentic Chinese medicinals. And this, coupled with frequent occurrence of safety accidents, led to declining public credibility of TCM sharply. Meantime, the internationalization of TCM has faced a host of troubles, suffering from technical barriers to trade (TBTs), increased risk of desinification and so on. The standardization, an important carrier of characteristics and advantages of TCM, is the premise to achieve modernized and international development of TCM. This article considered that TCM must go the way of standardization if it wants to get rid of proposed troubles in the course of development and puts forward corresponding countermeasures that maintaining public credibility and boosting internationalization by the means of standardization. For example, diagnosis and treatment technique of TCM should be inherited. Quality and safety of Chinese herbal medicine should be insured with the aid of standardization. And TBTs can also be overcome and put into the right tendency of desinification by making use of TCM standardization.
