%X As an important integral part of the traditional Chinese medicine, medicinal materials of marine origin have long been playing a valuable role in the medical practice in China. This paper presents a brief review on the progress achieved in this field in the past two decades, followed by a strategic consideration on the research and development of these marine -- based medicinal materials in the 21st century.
