Control group was fed the basal diet, Group 1 were fed the basal diet supplemented with Bacillus complex (B. subtilis and B. amyloliquefaciens, 1:1; 105cfu/g diet), and Group 2 were fed the basal diet supplemented with B. subtilis only (105cfu/g diet). The results indicated that compared with the control group, water nitrite nitrogen level in Group 1 and Group 2 were significantly decreased from the 21st day to the end of the experiment (except on the 35th day for group 1, P<0.01); and ammonium nitrogen level in group 2 was also significantly decreased on the 21st and 35th day. No significant differences were found for water pH and nitrate nitrogen level among the three groups. Supplementation of Bacillus also decreased the death rate (P<0.05) and improved the growth performance of grass carps. Compared with the control group, WGR of Group 1 and Group 2 were increased by 52.93% (P<0.01) and 21.78% (P<0.05), and ADFI were increased by 44.44% (P<0.01) and 16.67% (P<0.05), respectively; and compared with Group 2, supplementation of complex Bacillus increased both WGR and ADFI of grass carp significantly (25.58% and 23.81%, respectively, P<0.01). Further study showed that supplementation of Bacillus improved partial antioxidant capacity of intestinal mucosa of grass carp, as evidenced by increased activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). It can be concluded that, Bacillus supplementation in basal diets can improve water quality and antioxidant capacity of grass carp, and further improve the growth performance and decrease the death rate of grass carp. %K Bacillus %K Grass carp %K Water quality %K Growth performance %K Antioxidant capacity
