Two kinds of mechanisms are involved: One is the compartmenzation of cell walls; the other is the adaptability of cell walls. The resistance of plants to metals is enhanced largely by both mechanisms of cell walls. The possibility of enhancing the resistance of plants to metals by modulating the physical-chemical characteristics of cell walls is also reviewed. The mechanisms of resistance increased to metals by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi colonization can also be explained by the changes of cell walls. %K cell wall %K metal stress %K arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi %K compartmenzation mechanism %K adaptability mechanism
