%X In this paper,the classification method of mental activities based the normalized 4th order cumulant (kurtosis) was proposed.The EEG signals were recorded during imagination of left or right hand movement.The 4th order cumulants of EEG and its dynamic properties with respect to time were analyzed.The experiment results showed that the 4th order cumulant could reflect the EEG pattern changes of different motor imageries.According to the analysis and experiment results,the classification of left or right hand movement imagination based the 4th order cumulant was designed.The correct rate of classification could achieve 87.5%.Since the computation of 4th order cumulant is very simple and can also be estimated in on-line way,the new method has the practicability in the application of brain-computer interface technique.
