%X The present study reported that the effects of temperature and size on metabolism of Paphia undulate under controlled conditions indoors. The temperature levels were 15, 20, 25 and 30 oC, and two size groups designed as A and B were set with the mean shell length of 4.35 ± 0.15 cm and 3.53 ± 0.13cm, respectively. It was found that temperature had significant effects on oxygen consumption rate and ammonia excretory rate (P < 0.05). The size had significant effects on oxygen consumption rate (P < 0.05), while insignificant effects on ammonia excretory rate were detected (P > 0.05). The oxygen consumption rate of Paphia undulate increased with temperature increasing from 15 to 30 oC. At 15 and 20 oC, the oxygen consumption rate of the B group was significantly larger than that of the A groups (P < 0.05). At 25 and 30 oC, however, there were insignificant differences in oxygen consumption rate between the two size groups (P > 0.05). The ammonia excretory rate of Paphia undulate increased with temperature increasing from 15 to 30 oC. At 15, 20, 25 and 30 oC, there were insignificant differences in the ammonia excretory rate between the two size groups (P > 0.05).
