%X Bid is a proapoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family that shares only the BH3 domain. The full-length Bid is inactive. Cleaved by caspase 8, the carboxy-terminal portion of Bid then translocates to mitochondria and is sufficient to trigger cytochrome c release. This is the key regulatory step in apoptosis. Within only few years after the function of Bid was found, the studies of different approaches of molecular biology, cell biology, structural analysis and the use of model membrane system had led to a rapid progress in the study of Bid protein. This minireview focuses on the brief story of Bid protein.
