The result showed that in the observed 5 phases (0,7,14,21,28 hours of postinfection) ,there was no dominant difference in membrane fluidity between infected and normal cells in the early phases(0,7 hours of postinfection), but in the late phases(14, 21, 28 hours of postinfection) the membrane fluidity of the infected cells increased evidently. This suggests that there is a close relationship between late events of HSV morphogenesis, such as maturation and release, and the host cell membrane system. The change in membrane fluidity of infected cells was related to the degree of cytopathetic effect of the infected cells and the amount of descendant virus.
