%X To evaluate the responses of subtropical forest trees in China to elevated nitrogen (N) deposition, we sprayed dissolved NH_4NO_3 on seedlings of Schima superba, Castanopsis chinensis and Cryptocarya concinna twice every month. The simulated elevated N depositions were equivalent to 0 (A), 5 (B), 10 (C), 15 (D) and 30 (E) g N/(m~2·a) and began in January, 2003.
