%X The study presents an interesting example of exfoliation of aluminium alloy. The snap-link was exposed to a karst cave environment. Each part of the security set was observed by means of an optical and scanning electron microscope with EDS analyzer. Corrosion products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The snap-link failure was caused by an inappropriate heat treatment and exposure to a permanently humid atmosphere.
