%X A simple and efficient approach towards one step synthesis of 6-amino-5-cyano-4-phenyl-2-mercapto pyrimidine and its hydroxyl derivatives have been developed by three component condensation of aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile and thiourea/urea in presence of phosphorus pentoxide (Scheme 1).
