%X according to the stoics, causation (aition) must be regarded as a triadic process: a (a body) becomes a cause to b (another body) of an incorporeal effect (i.e. a predicate). this paper intends to account for how this causal model is applied to the cosmic causation taking place between pne£¿ma pervading all things (one of whose functions is to hold together i.e. it is a 'cohesive' power, the whole) and the passive (unqualified matter). in addition, it is argued (against bobzien) for the distinction between 'cause' (aition) and 'causal account' (aitia) as a genuine stoic tenet.
