%X in this work, it was studied the effect of a nitridation pretreatment with ammonia at temperatures between 500 and 900¡ãc, on the activity of a commercial ni-mo/al2o3 catalyst. the nitrided catalyst was characterized by xps and bet surfacearea. the presence of mo+2 and mo0 in the catalyst nitrided at 700¡ãc, as detected by xps, could be related to the possible active species. thiophene conversion was doubled when the commercial catalyst was nitrided followed by sulfidingreduction £¿in situ£¿ pretreatment.
