%0 Journal Article %T Efecto del cultivar y distancia entre plantas sobre caracter¨ªsticas f¨ªsicoqu¨ªmicas del fruto del mel¨®n (Cucumis melo L.) %A Garc¨ªa P %A J.C %A Rodr¨ªguez G %A Z.F %A Lugo G %A J.G %A Rodr¨ªguez %A V %J Revista de la Facultad de Agronom¨ªa %D 2009 %I Universidad del Zulia %X the physical characteristics: biomass average, size (longitude and diameter) and internal cavity size and those chemical ones: total soluble solids (tss), ph, titrable acidity and tss/acidity were evaluated in hybrid fruits of "araucano", "iron horse", "642 hybrid" and "packstar" melon plants, with a separation of 40 and 60 cm between plants, in bobare, lara state. cultivars and plant spacing were combined in a factorial arrangement of 8 treatments with 3 replicates in design of blocks at random. the fruits biomass average was statistically similar for the cultivars; however, distance between plants affected this, being observed a high accumulation, 1.54 kg for the hybrid one "araucano" to 60 cm. the fruit size was not affected by any of the studied factors. the "araucano" hybrid showed the higher internal cavity (6.83 cm) in plants separate to 60 cm, whihc makes it less resistant to the transport. sowing distance between plants and cultivar significantly affected the tss content, with more concentration in the iron horse hybrid with 10.13 obrix in plants separated 60 cm. acidity and tss/acidity relationship was not affected by the cultivar neither distances, while the cultivar variable affected the ph, the biggest value with (7.47) was observed in the 642 hybrid. when selecting a cultivar they should consider several quality attributes that allow guaranteeing productive potential and mainly acceptance. %K melon %K hybrid %K plant spacing %K total soluble solids and fruit characteristics. %U http://www.scielo.org.ve/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0378-78182009000200001&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
