%X the french enlightenment does not think that freedom of conscience and religion is a broad and neutral right. the terms depict a meaning narrower than that which, at first sight, is suggested. the writings of voltaire and the encyclop¨¦die consider said freedom, per essence and per system, as separated from the christian god and his law. the anti-christian disposition, the religious agnosticism and the metaphysical skepticism are the basis for this modern freedom.
