%X one of the problems for kant in the critique of judgment is the suitability of nature's particular diversity to the laws of the understanding. in this context, kant characterizes the concepts of nature, matter and purposiveness in a novel fashion, putting forward the idea of an art or technique of nature. this article considers this new kantian approach emphasizing the role played by the principle of purposiveness in a context in which a new science of living beings is emerging.
