%X the popular unitary action movement, mapu (1969-1989), splitfrom the dc to join the socialism and after a renewal helped the union of dc with the socialists in the pragmatic "concertaci¨®n". the mapu demonstrates the "transformative/innovative" contribution of enlightened ¨¦lites, who moves from rupture to play a role in founding of new coalitions. the traditional debate in political science of disruptive or functional ¨¦lites can be enriched with the concept of transformative ¨¦lite that shakes and then stabilizes the system in the modernization process. to someone's might express a cynical pattern of accommodation, for others a case offlexibility. this article seeks to highlight the transformative role as a synthetic concept.
