%X this work concerns the inclusion of education as a topic in the agenda of the second summit of the americas, particularly in terms of the importance of education in the development of the countries in the region and, of whether the commitment to education might lead to an agenda that would promote public policy in the hemisphere. to this end, key aspects such as globalization, multilateralism and their current manifestations as well as the creation and analysis of public policies were considered. this is an interdisciplinary study since, given the topic, links between notions and categories from the area of education, international relations and other areas were vital. one important task was the preparation and publication of a state-of-the-art on a subject hitherto given scant attention, a document which will provide a basis for further research in the area.
