%0 Journal Article %T La equidad y la calidad en los procesos de admisi¨®n a la Educaci¨®n Superior: Universidad Sim¨®n Bol¨ªvar y Universidad Central de Venezuela %A Blanco P¨¦rez %A Fernando %A Fl¨®rez Paredes %A Elizabeth %A Gim¨¦nez Mercado %A Claudia %J Revista de Pedagog¨ªa %D 2010 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X this work sets out to analyze the admission processes used by the universidad simon bolivar (usb) and the universidad central de venezuela (ucv). the ana - lysis was made on the basis of a proposal to pursue contemporary equalitarianism and to identify the characteristics of a fair admission process which would also be of high-quality. to achieve this, a revision was made of the main features of the admissions policies adopted at each university and a field study that allowed us to identify the student profile for the year 2007 in the courses common to both institutions, namely: engineering, architecture and urbanism and basic sciences. the results indicate that both universities have differing means of access that promote in clusion with quality. however, both need to unite their admission policy principles and values with the entry mechanisms they use. at the same time, the fact that these programs have as base the leveling of knowledge, points to the need to act upon state secondary education to contribute to a fair distribution insofar as intake is concerned. on studying the social background of new students, it was noticeable that the usb and ucv only differ in the area of engineering. finally, the largely ineffective allocation in the type of basic science course shows the need to re-orientate social demand in higher education studies. %K higher education %K admission %K fairness %K venezuelan education. %U http://www.scielo.org.ve/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0798-97922010000200003&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
