%X salvador de la plaza (1896-1970) was one of the first thinkers that applied marxist categories to venezuelan history. he articulated his reflections toward political transformation and defended sovereignity and the construction of a project that could lead to organizational forms that would be based on equality, freedom, solidarity and latin american integration, as a formula to get free of dependence, economic stagnation, and political, social and cultural limitations which characterize this country secularly. this article outlines the conceptions based on historical materialism bequeathed by this organic intellectual, renewed nowadays under the bolivarian revolutionary process in venezuela.
