%X the article explores a business network that was formed from the banco portugu¨ºs do brasil. this network was formed in rio de janeiro by members of portuguese immigrant community. it observes the activities of the bank for twenty years, a period of time when the rio's economy suffered drastic changes, once import businesses, organized around the city harbor gave place to investments oriented to the domestic market. the article also explores the links between entrepreneurial groups in rio de janeiro and lisbon, aiming at showing the importance of the capital raised in business ventures in brazil to leverage business in portugal.
