%X this article contains partial results of a study about the importance of language features and functions in print media news reports. an evaluation was conducted to determine the use of these elements in newspapers with the widest circulation in the city of maracaibo, venezuela. the work is based theoretically on principles of the authors grijelmo, a. (2003), fernandez, g. (2002) and corona, m. et al (2005). the instrument used was a documentary observation form to analyze news content. research results revealed that most of the local print media content lacks clarity, simplicity and conciseness, and does not use journalistic language functions properly. moreover, the publications evaluated have spelling errors, leading to editing and aesthetic problems.
