C.A. %A Lovo %A Eduardo E. %A Mart¨ªnez Cortez %A Rafael %A Milla Flor %A Rodolfo %A Moreira %A H¨¦ctor %J Revista argentina de neurocirug£¿-a %D 2009 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X objective: to report the use of advanced medical technology in the surgery of cerebral tumors. to analyze the initial statistics of the neuro-oncology program of the hospitales de diagn¨®stico (hd) de el salvador. material and method: this is a preliminary retrospective and descriptive report of the patients that have been operated of brain tumors by the neuro-oncology program at the hd and the hospital militar central (hmc) from january 2007 to january 2009. tumor resections are described using frame-based stereotactic and frameless, stereotactic systems, intraoperative ultrasound, awake surgery and cortical mapping. results: 57 patients were operated. complications: 7 (12%), postoperative morbidity and mortality 0%. 5 patients died at the end of this study; 13 (22.8%) were operated awake; 4 (7%) lesions were located in the eloquent area; 7 (12%) near eloquent area and 46 (80%) in non-eloquent area. conclusions: all though the neuro-oncology program is "young" it has represented a significant advance in the analysis of our surgical results and of other therapeutics implemented in the hd and hmc. the technology applied to this program optmized tumor resections, minimizing its complications. %K surgery guided by stereotaxia %K intraoperative us %K awake surgery. %U http://www.scielo.org.ar/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S1850-15322009000100006&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
