%X abstract the 1980s witnessed a new topography of sexual identities in the entire western world. the visibility of a homosexual culture was evident in the mass media. visual and symbolic images derived from the dissident homosexual culture were directed, above all, to the youth. they were managed by a new elite of experts that projected and promoted new £¿lifestyles£¿, new esthetic models, especially in the film and music industries. this general tendency was naturally present in venezuela, although it also assumed a particular local color. this article examines what the author considers two emblematic cases that serve to highlight the venezuelan experience: the rise and fall of the author-singer colina; and the fleeting success of the review estilo
