%X this paper presents the results of two case studies in venezuela: the first analyzed the process of implementing distributed control systems at propilven, s.a., a resin-producing firm; the second, considered implementation of the digital audio system (das) at the radio station luz fm 102.9. the aim of the study is to analyze organizational capability (oc) throughout the implementation process and its role in creating competences for effective use of the aforementioned technologies. the methodological strategy consisted of defining the corpus of the study, extracting results related to the aim of the study from each case, data systematization, data analysis and conclusions. the case studies show how the firms failed to create the competences required for effective use of the technology by not producing an effective integration of the new technology with the firm£¿s internal processes (oc). the research supports the theory about the importance of certain organizational routines for the effective integration of new knowledge within the firm. the implementation of computerized systems should be understood as a process of developing organizational competences which include: 1) the process of building the knowledge base, 2) the process of acquiring complementary knowledge and 3) the process of integrating basic and complementary knowledge. conclusions are that the process of integrating basic and complementary knowledge in implementing technologies requires the deployment of a set of clearly structured organizational routines in order to align technical systems, skills, strategy and market.
