%X this work describes analytically the electoral campaign of the 23rd november 2008 regional elections in estado bol¨ªvar, emphasising diverse aspects of political agency deployed by the contenders. the guayanese region became paradigmatic of the struggle of the country£¿s electoral forces and therefore provides findings that trascend regional boundaries. our analysis of the campaign starts in september 2008 and points out the importance of the electoral profiles that each candidate£¿s team built up through its access to the regional press and with the support of other propaganda activities. this analysis, along with that of the electoral results, enables us to comment on the behaviour of voters whose preferences cannot be understood from the elitist-competitive parameters of democracy studies.
