%X as it happens in many other countries, soccer is no doubt the sport, which gathers more fans in portugal. the fine results achieved by the national soccer team are a reason for national pride and union feeling. the purpose of this article is to highline sport£¿s management most unseen part, the financial management of soccer teams. the sporting, sad was chosen as the present case study. the authors have analysed the evolution of sporting£¿s financial balance during the first decade of its existence, using the classical financial ratio approach. the data were obtained from the sporting, sad£¿s financial statements. the results show an unbalanced financial period for the first seven years. although sporting, sad has overtaken this problem for the last three years, it is the authors£¿ opinion that the financial engineering performed by the organization£¿s administration was the base for such a change.
