%0 Journal Article %T M¨¦todo piel a piel: Repercusi¨®n sobre el desarrollo f¨ªsico-intelectual a la edad preescolar %A Acosta D¨ªaz %A Ram¨®n %A Brito Meli¨¢ns %A Loreta %A Meli¨¢ns Uriarte %A Raquel D. %A Morera Betancourt %A Onilda %J Revista Cubana de Pediatr£¿-a %D 2003 %I Editorial Ciencias M¨¦dicas %X to evaluate the physical and intellectual development of children treated by kangaroo mother care method at 6 years of age, a prospective analytical case-control study was carried out in "abel santamar¨ªa" general university hospital in pinar del rio province from march 2001 to march 2002. the sample was composed by 100 children of whom 50 preterm infants treated by kangaroo mother care method were taken as cases and the other 50 were term newborns taken as controls; all of them were applied ravens¡ätest to evaluate their intelligence quotient and anthropometric measurements (weight and height) to assess their physical development. a form was administered to the mothers so as to relate some socio-psychological and environmental factors that may influence these variables. all data was statistically processed by using percentage mean and the independence test among variables, with a level of significance of p < 0,05. no significant differences were found between the physical development and the results of ravens¡ätest between both groups but the marital stability of parents represented a socio-psychological variable having a significant association with the intellectual development of preterm children at preschool age. %K child development %K infant %K prematur [growth and development] %K nutrition %K breast feeding %K prospective studies. %U http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0034-75312003000300003&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
