%0 Journal Article %T Evaluaci¨®n nutricional prequir¨²rgica de ni£¿os atendidos en el Hospital Pedi¨¢trico Universitario "William Soler" %A Rodr¨ªguez Fern¨¢ndez %A Ana Luisa %A Barreto Peni¨¦ %A Jes¨²s %A Santana Porb¨¦n %A Sergio %A Llanes C¨¦spedes %A Ruperto %J Revista Cubana de Pediatr£¿-a %D 2003 %I Editorial Ciencias M¨¦dicas %X the nutritional status of children of both sexes aged 2 to 14 years, who were proposed for elective surgery because of some pathologies such as anorectal malformation, hirschpung¡äs disease, esophagic atressia and esophagic stenosis, among others, was studied. the patients were evaluated by clinical, anthropometric and biochemical parameters. 85 % of children did not show signs of defective malnutrition. the weight-height ratio in 77,5 % of children was within the normal range whereas 10 % of children were overweighed. plasma albumin figures in 75 % of patients were under 35 g/l. there were no children with serious protein depletion. 70 % of infants showed kwashiorkor-type malnutrition, 2,5 % marasmic malnutrition and 5 % mixed. 22,5 % was within the normal range. a high portion of children showed in the preoperative subclinical forms of malnutrition whose importance can not be ignored in the postoperative recovery. %K nutritional status %K height weight %K serum albumin %K nutrition disorders %K child %K surgery. %U http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0034-75312003000300001&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
