%0 Journal Article %T Prevalencia del s¨ªndrome metab¨®lico en pacientes diab¨¦ticos tipo 2 %A Agramonte Martinez %A Mayra %A Barn¨¦s Dominguez %A Jos¨¦ A %A Pinto Correa %A Mar¨ªa de los ¨¢ngeles %J Revista Cubana de Medicina %D 2009 %I ECIMED %X authors made a cross-sectional study in type 2 diabetes persons from january to december 2005 in health area of wajay, to determine the metabolic syndrome (ms) and its prevalence. a cohort was selected by simple customized sampling (n= 218). presence of ms was considered if two or more national cholesterol education program (ncep/at p iii) were fulfilled. all persons underwent a physical examination and a medical record was obtained. mean and standard deviation (sd) were estimated for quantitative variables, comparison was made by student t test; the qualitative ones with frequency distribution, and chi2 for associations. they were considered significant when p < 0, 05. we found that ms prevalence was of 56 %, the 40,2 % of patients presenting with ms had a ischemic heart disease. we conclude that ms is very frequent in persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and that there is a close relationship between ic and ms. %K type 2 diabetes %K metabolic syndrome %K cardiovascular disease. %U http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0034-75232009000100002&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
