%X the bases for implementing a surveillance system of the fluoride levels in drinking water in cuba are described. it is aimed at detecting space and temporary changes in the levels of the element in that means in order to protect the population health. the system serves to support the national program for the fluoridation of consumption salt to prevent dental caries. the surveillance of the fluoride levels in water is also considered so as not to supply fluorinated salt to those municipalities where sources of supply with ion concentrations fulfilling the prevention requirements have been detected. the elements of the system connected with coverage, water sampling, methods of analysis and assay laboratories, as well as the aspects dealing with classification, statistical analysis, mapping of the results and information flow are presented.
