%X some considerations on the main microvascular and macrovascular complications of diabetes mellitus, the fundamental factors in its pathogenesis and the costs associated with their care are made in this paper. the epidemiological studies are of vital importance to know, in the cuban environment, the real prevalence of diabetes and of its complications in order to face the challenge of preventing them or stopping their progression. the authors pretend with this review to motivate all those persons in charge of the attention to the diabetic to conduct epidemiological studies in this increasing group of patients
