%X a review on the main public health concepts and their importance for the healthcare development in cuba was made; important aspects of the evolution and development of this category were presented. the reasons why health is considered a comprehensive science and its function in the permanent search for a better quality of life were provided. also, a brief description of the background and development of the pharmacist profession in cuba was made. the role of this professional in the health care system and the importance of his/her participation in a health team as educator and health promoter were debated
