%X some indicators, which are related to population, number of drug stores, classification, the presence of the national drug formulary and the manual of procedures in 1 044 community drug stores located in the central provinces and in four provinces of the eastern region of cuba, were identified and estimated to find out the adequate conditions making application of pharmaceutical care possible in these territories. to this end, the index of drug stores per 10 000 inhabitants and the number of inhabitants per drug store were calculated. information from a data collection model, which was used in the national supervision of the drugstores included in the study from february to december, 2004, was processed. the application of the percentage comparison test and mapinfo (map design program) detected that there was a shortage of drugstores with respect to the number of inhabitants per province
