%X the present article is aimed at analyzing the state of genotoxic evaluations applied to medicinal plants that are widely consumed by our population. details are given about the types of in vivo or in vitro assays used, the levels of genetic damage that have been detected, and the results obtained up to now. recommendations are made on the necessity of complementing these studies to obtain more comprehensive genotoxic evaluations on the basis of the assays carried out in cuba, due to the absence of an international regulation for this type of evaluation and to classify with sufficient reasons the medicinal plants into genotoxic or not. to conclude, it is proposed a critical route to be followed in the studies of genetics toxicology with medicinal plants in our country.
