Maxillary Transverse Expansion: What Are the Limits? A Case Report and Literature Review

Amal El Aouame,Salma Sair,Farid El Quars
Transverse maxillary deficiency is a common discrepancy in both children and adults, which can lead to serious health problems, such as prejudicial malocclusions, breathing problems and a higher risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea. By considering the patient’s age and situating him or her on the growth curve, several treatment options can be envisaged, a rapid maxillary expansion (RPE), mini-implant-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE), Surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (S...

Ousehal Lahcen,Khamlich Kenza,Sair Salma,Serhier Zineb,El Quars Farid
Our work aims to assess the perception of practitioners in the field of orthodontics and prosthodontics regarding aesthetics, as well as the assessment of laypersons consulting at the Casablanca dental consultation and care center (CDCC), in regard to the torque of the maxillary canine. Based on the level of significance (alpha) of 0.01 and the effect size of 0.90, the sample size was calculated to achieve 80% power. This calculation showed that 24 subjects in each group were necessary. Five ph...

The aim was to assess the craniofacial characteristics of patients with a gummy smile, classifying the types of gummy smile in a population of adolescents, and then estimating the impact of orthodontic treatment with premolar extractions on the persistence of this type of smile. Based on 64 complete orthodontic records, a cross-sectional study was conducted over a period of 4 months in the orthodontics department of Casablanca. Mandibular Tooth Supported Overdenture: Case Report

Rabab Elabdouli, Khadija El Assraoui, Sanaa Rimaoui, Samira Bellemkhannate
Tooth loss has a number of consequences, including bone resorption that compromises prosthetic retention, as well as psychological impacts. That explains the state of depression and poor self-image in the totally edentulous patient. To overcome these problems, it is always preferable to delay extraction of the last teeth, and exploit them when the indication is well established to create a tooth-supported overdenture. This approach offers psychological and biological benefits such as the mainten...

Bacterial Adhesion on Lithium Disilicate Ceramics: Systematic Review

Sara Rhattas, Abderrahman Andoh, Mustapha Sidqui
Introduction: All-ceramic systems are constantly being revised and updated to incorporate new ceramic materials. Most of the evidence for the clinical use of new ceramic materials comes from information on mechanical properties and chemical composition. However, information on bacterial adhesion to these new materials is scarce. The aim of this study is to provide a better overview of the importance of bacterial adhesion on lithium disilicate ceramics compared to other dental ceramics. Material ...

Virtual Planning versus Traditional Planning in Orthodontic-Surgical Treatment: A Review

Soukaina Sahim, Farid El Quars
The success of orthognathic surgery depends on careful preparation preoperatively, accurate operative plan implementation and prevention of postoperative relapse. In general, preoperative plan is the most important step of the workflow process of orthognathic procedures. After years of clinical validation and feedback, traditional surgical planning TSP has been the standard procedure before orthognathic surgery. However, obvious limitations have been observed in TSP, especially in the treatment ...

Passive Re-Eruption of Immature Permanent Incisors: What Is the Prognosis? About a Case Report

Chaimaa Hajbaoui, Majid Sakout, Hind Ramdi
Intrusive luxation defined as an axial displacement of a tooth into its own socket, causing a crushing of the vascular-nervous bundle as well as significant pulpal, cemental, bone and periodontal damage. It is the most severe clinical form of dental dislocation and has the worst prognosis. The therapeutic modalities depend on the importance of dislocation and on the stage of root formation. Passive repositioning or spontaneous re-eruption is reserved to the immature teeth in first intention; how...

Hypomineralization of Molar Incisors: A Challenge for the Pedodontist (About a Clinical Case)

Chaimaa Hajbaoui, Majid Sakout
Molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) is defined as the developmentally-derived dental defect that involves hypomineralisation of 1 to 4 permanent first molars (FPM), frequently associated with similarly affected permanent incisors. Clinically, this hypomineralised enamel damage of varying degrees, ranging from opacity to significant losses of substance with difficulty of management. The present work aims to show through a clinical case presenting a moderate MIH with an unusual localization and...

Effect of Different Final Irrigants Applied on Intraradicular Dentin on the Bond Strength to Fiber Post: A Review

Houda Moussaoui, Nadia El Mesbahi, Mohamed Nadour, Anas Bennani
Statement of Problem: Well bonding of fiber posts inside the root canal is based on the formation of hybrid layer (HL). After mechanical post space preparation, final rinse with irrigants before fiber post cementation is used to dissolve the smear layer and encourage the formation of HL. The purpose of this review was to investigate the effects of pretreatment of the root canal using different irrigants on push-out bond strength of luted fiber posts. Material and Methods: A computerized literatu...
