%X mitochondria are subcellular organelles whose primary role is to produce energy, which contain their own genetic system that encodes a small number of proteins that are part of the oxidative phosphorylation system. in recent years mutations in mitochondrial genetic material have been discovered, causing mitochondrial diseases. in order to increase and update the knowledge of the subject a literature survey was performed, where the relationship of mitochondria with conditions such as alzheimer's, parkinson's and diabetes mellitus, to name a few, is also stated.
