%X an experiment was set out to study nitrogen losses in a latosolic b terra roxa after sulfur-coated ureua (scu) and non-coated urea were applied in three different doses and ph adjusted to 6.5 and in a natural soil ph. higher losses of nitrogen (n-nh+ + n-no-) by leaching occured at higher fertilizer doses, but scu reduced those losses through slow release of the elemenent. nitrogen leaching increased with soil ph independently of the fertilizer used; howeverm no influence of the soil ph on n liberation of scu pellet was observed.
