%X Dada la importancia del m¨¢s all¨¢ en la predicaci¨®n cristiana, la ortodoxia de las pr¨¢cticas funerarias propiciaba la prueba definitiva de la adhesi¨®n sincera de los ind¨ªgenas al cristianismo. As¨ª se pod¨ªa esperar que, en sus doctrinas del Nuevo Mundo, los misioneros fuesen muy atentos a las pr¨¢cticas funerarias de los nuevos convertidos. Sin embargo, existe al respecto una diferencia mayor entre la manera en que se encaminaron las cosas en el M¨¦xico central y lo que pas¨® en los Andes del Centro-Sur. En Nueva Espa a, durante decenios, los religiosos se descuidaron por completo de tal cosa mientras tanto muy temprano averiguaron y denunciaron numerosas desviaciones en los Andes.  Ser¨ªa resultado del vigor del culto hacia los ancestros? En este texto, el autor defiende la tesis seg¨²n la cual la ausencia de inter¨¦s por estos asuntos en M¨¦xico no significa que en este lugar la cristianizaci¨®n de la muerte result¨® m¨¢s f¨¢cil que en los Andes. Pero s¨ª los rituales ind¨ªgenas, m¨¢s discretos, resultaron desapercibidos durante muchos a os por parte de los religiosos. Considering the importance of death and the afterlife in Christian preaching, it seems that the orthodoxy of indigenous funerary practices was proof of sincere adhesion to Christianity. We should therefore expect that the new world's evangelists would care about controlling the funerary practices of the new converts in their respective parishes. Yet, things happened in very different ways in Mexico and in the Andes. For decades, the religious authority was insensitive to this matter in New Spain, whereas in the Andes, the control and denunciation of deviancies occurred very early. Was it linked to the importance of ancestor worship in this region? In this text, the author defends the thesis that in Mexico, the lack of interest in this problem does not come from the fact that the Christianization of death there was easier than in the Andes. In fact, for many years, the more discreet indigenous rites remained hidden from the religious authorities who, therefore, did not fight them.
