It traces appearance and development of scientific thought in the theory of quality management from the point of view of the process approach. It justifies urgency of increase of the level of effectiveness and efficiency of activity of an organisation by means of creation, provision and management of the system of interconnected processes. It used the conducted studies to allocate eight main stages of evolution in quality management, which was reflected in the scheme developed by the authors. The article establishes that the process approach, which was offered in 1920s by representatives of administrative management, is the main approach today to quality management and meets requirements of the modern world.
