Partimos del an芍lisis del contenido de este derecho, para despu谷s analizar su reconocimiento en los diferentes instrumentos internacionales especialmente en la Declaraci車n Universal de los Derechos Humanos. Este fundamento permitir芍 abordar el tema en el contexto de las diferentes Constituciones que ha tenido el Ecuador desde que se fund車 como rep迆blica en 1830 hasta llegar a la actual Constituci車n de la Rep迆blica del Ecuador del 2008. La libertad de religi車n en el constitucionalismo ecuatoriano ha venido poco a poco evolucionando a lo largo de la historia desde la imposici車n de una sola religi車n por parte del Estado en 谷pocas conservadoras, pasando despu谷s a un liberalismo laico donde inclusive se prohib赤a toda pr芍ctica religiosa, hasta llegar a 谷pocas modernas en donde se establece la libertad de religi車n como un derecho propiamente dicho en el que se garantiza a las personas la libertad de profesar la religi車n de su elecci車n. HUMAN RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF RELIGION ABSTRACT In this article we analyze the recognition of the human right to freedom of religion in international instruments of human rights and their influence on Ecuadorian constitutionalism. We start by analyzing the content of this right. Next we analyze the recognition of this right in various international instruments especially the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This information allows us to then address the issue in the context of the various Constitutions which Ecuador has had since its foundation as a republic in 1830 through the present Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador, which took effect in 2008. Freedom of religion in Ecuadorian constitutionalism has been slowly evolving over time, from the imposition of one religion by the state in conservative times, to a secular liberalism which prohibited any religious practice, to modern times with freedom of religion as a right in and of itself that guarantees people the freedom to profess the religion of their choice.
